Approach

A building is
not raw material.

The fastest route to a saleable flat is demolition. We take the other one — not out of nostalgia, but because the result is better.

Principles

What we
hold to.

  • What is sound and beautiful stays — even where replacing would be cheaper.
  • Materials are shown, not clad: stone stays stone, concrete stays concrete.
  • New work is recognisably new. We do not build stage sets.
  • Fewer rooms, but larger. A loft is made by leaving things out.
  • Firms from the region, named contacts, site management on the ground.

Exclusions

What we
do not do.

  • No standard floor plans imposed on every building.
  • No imitation materials — no plastic that would like to be timber.
  • No building against the place: we keep to the scale and height of the neighbourhood.
  • No promises on dates we cannot keep.

Material

What we
work with.

Four materials carry almost every one of our projects. They age well — that is the real reason.

01

Lime

Lime plaster regulates moisture, lets the wall breathe and grows more beautiful over the years rather than shabby.

02

Timber

Exposed beams, solid doors, oiled floors. Timber takes the marks of use without looking damaged.

03

Stone and iron

Local natural stone, forged railings and window profiles from workshops in the region.
